Providing advocacy and user involvement services across England, VoiceAbility is a growing organisation working with people who are vulnerable or marginalised to raise their voices and have their rights respected.  Position: Relevant Persons Representative  Location: Sunderland  Job Type: Full Time, Permanent  Hours: 37.5 hours per week  Salary: £21,000 - £25,700 per annum  Closing date: 26 March 2017  About the role:  They have a vacancy for 2 full time Advocate's. The role involves providing support and representing clients who are deemed to lack mental capacity in matters relating to their deprivation of liberty. You will ensure that their interests are represented in accordance with the MCA Code of Practice and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Code of Practice.  Responsibilities:  • Advocate for clients ensuring their best interests are safeguarded by providing independent support.  • Notify the relevant managing authority and the supervisory body when the client's care does not appear to be in their best interests.  • Work with the relevant managing authority to ensure the client understands as much as possible that they have been authorised to deprive them of their liberty and ensure that they understand the impact this has on their care  • Help the client to communicate their views, on both their care and the restrictions being placed on them, to the relevant managing authority as well as to other professionals, family members or friends as appropriate.  • Work with interpreters for any meetings or discussions where the client's first language is not English and who does not want to or cannot communicate in English • Review the client's care plan in line with statutory minimum requirements and whenever it changes to ensure it is in their best interests.  • Attend and support the client's during any review meeting or planning meeting to ensure their views on their best interests are communicated.  • Request care review meetings when the client no longer meets the statutory requirements, or their circumstances have changed and the standard authorisation may no longer be appropriate.  • Maintain and build good working relationships with clients, their key worker and the relevant managing authorities, other professionals involved in their care, family members and friends  • Ensure all contacts with the client are accurately recorded on MAAVIS and copies provided to authorities in accordance with the code of practice  • Seek to resolve issues concerning the deprivation of liberty firstly informally, or through the relevant Supervisory Body's or Managing Authority's complaints procedure, rather than through the Court of Protection  • Apply to the Court of Protection when they feel all other avenues have failed and they believe it is in the best interests of the client  About you:  It is essential that you have a knowledge of the principles of advocacy and of the statutory regulations covering this work, along with a strong commitment to support people to have their voice heard.  You will have clear communication skills (both written and verbal) and good relationship building skills. A positive 'can do' attitude is also essential.  An understanding of Mental Health. Previous experience of acting as an RPR and experience of working as an IMCA is desirable.  IAQ, IMCA module and DOLS modules are desirable.  You may have experience of the following: Advocate, Advocator, Vulnerable Adults, IAQ, Charity, Third Sector, Social Worker, IMCA, DOLS, RPR, Legislation, Policy, Support Worker, Healthcare etc.  This vacancy is being advertised by EasyWeb Recruitment, the UK's leading Online Recruitment Agency.
