Our Trading Team are looking for a Buyer to join them here at our Worksop Office. Here at Wilko our Buyers, lead and implement the trading plan for their area of responsibility through the category strategy. They build strong supplier and internal stakeholder relationships in order to maximise sales and profit, minimise end to end costs, execute customer growth opportunities and optimise category performance across all product lines. They make a real difference if we do say so ourselves. For us a Buyer must have high levels of customer focus, exceptional influencing and decision making skills. At the heart of it all a Buyer at Wilko must show passion and an understanding for product, our primary strategic lever, and be capable of strong sales and profit performance against business plan. Key Accountabilities Accountable for developing the category strategy, driving the initiatives that deliver the strategy including sales, customer excitement, price, promotions, range, space utilisation, NPD, availability & quality to optimise category performance across all channels in line with the company strategy. Drive category management activities/priorities to optimise availability, reduce end to end costs, SKU optimisation, supplier optimisation and sourcing optimisation working in collaboration with the Management Team, overcoming issues and challenges as they arise. Share best practices across the trading floor and incorporate learning and feedback to promote continuous long term improvements. Use knowledge of the category performance and key issues through internal and external measures in order to operate within a fluid environment on the trading floor, responding to sales and profit challenges as they arise. Lead and develop effective relationships with all suppliers in line with our company values to achieve tangible business benefits including the best deals, first to market and larger funding for promotions in order to maximise performance of the category. Build supplier strategies for category ensuring that joint business plans and annual trading plans are in place. Responsible for leading supplier negotiations and trading terms delivery. Assess and adjust the category direction in response to a changing environment demonstrating external market knowledge and agility to respond. Perform regular competitor analysis and benchmarking of other retailers pricing and buying strategies and processes, identifying best practice to incorporate into the business and maximising margin and competitive position within the market. Manage the selection of a market leading product range, using customer insights and feedback to maximise new product opportunities and range visibility, to create an unparalleled customer experience and maximise sales and profit to achieve category KPI’s. What we need from you Educated to degree level or have equivalent relevant experience. Retail buying experience is essential. Experience of negotiating with suppliers and building strong supplier relationships. Demonstrate strong planning and organisational skills to enable deadlines to be hit right first time. Demonstrating understanding of customer insights. Demonstrating use of levers effecting buyers profitability. Excellent computer skills including excel. Be able to analyse and evaluate data and information and use this to take appropriate action. Excellent planning and organisation skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet tight deadlines. Work effectively in collaboration cross-functionally to achieve shared goals and deliver business objectives. Good project management skills with the ability to lead projects to completion, and provide hands on support as appropriate. A flexible outlook with the ability to use problem solving skills and an ‘outside the box’ approach. Please note a Buyer for Wilko will also go on supplier visits and sourcing trips in the UK and overseas.
