Applications are invited for the post of Junior Specialist Doctor at Higher level within Division C, Acute Geriatrics OPAL. The post will commence as soon as possible following notice periods. The post provides support to the consultants and multidisciplinary team carrying out comprehensive geriatric assessment within the Clinical Decision Unit and Emergency Department. Other duties include seeing referrals from non-medical specialities and teaching 4th year medical students. The post may require work at nights and weekends on the appropriate rota, depending on the candidate’s speciality skills. The post would particularly suit someone planning to commence training in Geriatric Medicine imminently, or from an Emergency Medicine or Acute Medicine background who wishes to gain specific skills in Acute Geriatric Medicine. This is a one year fixed term post. Duties include working as part of the OPAL multidisciplinary team on the clinical decision unit and within the emergency department, in order to provide comprehensive geriatric assessment to older people. The role includes teaching medical students, and there are opportunities for research and training depending on the candidates interests. The OPAL team consists of consultant geriatricians, a core medical trainee, specialist nursing and therapy staff, and OPAL assistants. Although this is a non-training post, training opportunities offered to similar level trainees will be available The appointee must be fully registered with the General Medical Council.
