Applications are invited for MATTU Surgical Research Fellows 2 posts at the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Guildford. The roles commence from October 2017 for a period of 24 months fixed term. The Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit was established in 1995 and has an International reputation for teaching and training in minimal access therapy. There is also a well-established programme of research in a variety of allied fields including health economics, surgical outcomes, enhanced recovery, and immune response to surgery, new technology and imaging. The MATTU is part of the General Surgery Specialty Business Unit. The 24-month post is aimed at a Specialty Registrar who is interested in advancing a career in gastrointestinal surgery by the opportunity to develop specialist teaching skills and undertake research which would lead to a higher degree- M.D or PhD, while maintaining clinical skills. The initial appointment is for one year with extension to two years subject to satisfactory performance. The post will primarily be research based with some exposure to clinical work including a weekly clinic and other activity when trainees are on leave. This is a full time research position that would incorporate one night per week as StR on-call from 8pm to 8am, and an additional 1:5 weekend day shift with internal cover as StR on-call from 8pm to 8am.
