SQL Server Database Administrator/DBA - Production - Manchester Start Date - ASAP Due to continued expansion we are looking to recruit a highly skilled SQL Server Production DBA for a key client in Manchester. The role offers an excellent salary as well as technically challenging work and career growth. You will support the databases and ensure optimal performance, availability and security. Skills and Knowledge: Previous exposure to SQL Server as Senior DBA Database Administration in SQL Server (SQL 2005 - SQL Server 2014) Excellent knowledge of Data warehouse system design and implementation. Troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc. Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools. Strong knowledge of how indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching. How statistics work, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively. SQL Development - ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design (stored procs, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints) Log Shipping and Transactional Replication SSIS Must have good understanding on Physical and Logical design of database Organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a busy environment both as a member of a team and independently Essential skill is the ability to develop using transact SQL/T-SQL as well as having administrator capabilities on SQL Server 2005-2014 Replication, Logshipping, Index Tuning, SQL Monitor. Database security standards SQL server migration and server consolidation Microsoft certification would be preferred although not essential. Exposure to other database technologies such as MongoDB, MySQL is highly beneficial Knowledge of SQL Azure is highly beneficial. Main Duties: Ensure 24/7 availability and performance of all business critical system. Maintains database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements. Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications. Work closely with Business analyst, Development teams and convert requirements into logical and physical database designs and models Capacity planning and reporting: Monitor file system space, database allocation, etc.; verify efficient use of disk storage; optimize space allocation and avoid out-of-space conditions Perform application refreshes on request: Refresh data from one environment to another at the request of the development and test team. Responsible for database and query performance optimisation (tuning, indexing and integrity/consistency checking). Responsible for the database disaster recovery which includes managing a timely SQL backup schedules to ensure recovery without data loss Participating in out of standard working hours on-call rota alternating weeks (normally 1 week in 4/6).
