    • Post No:                        008236 Job title:                        Technical Analyst (Security) Responsible for:           None Responsible to:            Security Architect Grade:                            Grade 6 (£27,285 – £31,604) Opening Date:            20 September 2017 Closing Date:               11 October 2017                                     Purpose of Post The Technical Analyst (Security) will be responsible for supporting IT security at the University to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of University information. The role will contribute to the identification and assessment of security risks and the implementation of controls to reduce risk, meeting the existing and future needs of the University. The role will require knowledge in a number of security technology areas (anti-malware, encryption, Security Intelligence and Event Monitoring, network security), and in information governance principles (risk, legislation, standards, policy and procedures). Duties of the Technical Analyst The post holder will be a member of the Information Security Team and will be required to work within a matrix management and team structure.  In delivering this role the Technical Analyst will: ·         Help ensure CIS-managed services are seen as secure and represent good practice to the rest of the University; ·         Understand security requirements and support the University’s drive to improve its security; ·         Deploy, support and manage a range of security technologies including anti malware, encryption, Network Access Control, web & email filtering, Security Information Event Monitoring, firewalls and authentication; ·         Perform proactive and reactive IT security monitoring (reacting to security alerts, etc.); ·         Assist colleagues in CIS and the wider University to consider IT security risks as part of routine activities such as projects, changes and incident resolution; ·         Provide pragmatic security advice covering security technology; ·         Perform initial investigations (who and what affected, what is the risk, next steps); ·         Assist with detailed investigations of breaches of security, copyright and other incidents; ·         Champion security best practice, principles and standards in CIS; ·         Provide backup cover and support for the Security Architect; ·         Solve problems and make decisions independently and quickly and communicate them clearly to other IT staff, academics and researchers within the University, using non-technical language as appropriate to the audience; ·
